Antonio Weiss has been named by Lazard Ltd as the firm’s new global head of Mergers & Acquisitions with immediate effect.

He first joined the firm some 16 years ago, and it is a decade since he was made a managing director in the firm.

For the last three years Weiss has worked as vice chairman of European Investment Banking.

Weiss’ new post will see him partly responsible for leading Lazard’s activities with major global clients.

Lazard’s chief executive officer and chairman, Bruce Wasserstein, explained that during his years at the firm Weiss had exhibited a strong comprehension of various cultures and accumulated a broad base of knowledge.
