Pan-African financial institution Ecobank enjoyed a very good night at the Banker magazine’s Bank of the Year Awards, winning 11 awards.

The ceremony was hosted at the Intercontinental Hotel in London, and saw Ecobank named the best bank in 11 African nations in which it operates from its network, the largest of any one bank in Africa.

Ecobank won the awards for best bank in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

MD of Ecobank Nigeria, Moukaram Chanou, expressed the firm’s gratification to win so many awards.

Last year Ecobank won 10 awards at the ceremony, and so has managed to improve on this impressive tally in 2009.

At the same event Spanish banking giant won the coveted Global Bank of the Year award, winning praise for its cost control and risk management.
