Barclays is creating up to 600 jobs in Glasgow as it establishes a new centre for its investment banking and wealth management operations.
The move, which will take the number of the bank’s employees in the city to over 2,000, is being supported with more than £6.5 million in Regional Selective Assistance Funding from Scottish Enterprise.
The group’s head of operations Barclays Capital and Barclays Wealth, Ian Axed, says: “This example of collaboration between the investment banking and wealth management divisions at Barclays is an exciting development for clients, staff and potential employees in Glasgow and across Scotland.”
The new posts will go some way to offset financial crisis job losses in the region, notably at Royal Bank of Scotland, although Standard Life announced up to 500 job cuts only last week, with staff at its Edinburgh base worst affected by the cull.
