On Wednesday the World Bank chose 100 new projects to fund, as part of its second China Development Marketplace initiative.
The initiative was set up to fund projects and ideas from grassroots organisations in China.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs and State Council Leading Group Office for Poverty Reduction and Development operate in partnership with the World Bank in the China Development Marketplace.
Almost four projects were put forward for every available place.
Those selected are involved in health, agriculture, combating poverty and AIDS and other areas.
In June an independent panel will whittle the 100 projects down to 50, each of which will receive funding of 200,000 yuan.
