Lazard has announced the appointment of Spiro Youakim as a managing director and member of the firm’s worldwide Metal & Mining advisory group.

Youakim joins the firm from Citigroup, where he served as MD and head of European Metals & Mining investment banking.

Youakim has advised on a number of important transactions, such as Mittal Steel’s acquisition of Arcelor and Anglo American’s sale of Highveld Steel & Vanadium to Evraz.

He began his career 17 years ago, working for Credit Lyonnais, joining Schroders (which joined Citigroup) five years later.

Three years ago he was promoted to managing director with Citigroup.

Lazard’s president, Charles Ward III, has welcomed the appointment, stating that tremendous benefit to the customer will be derived from Youakim’s specialist skills and industry knowledge.
