John Peace has been named as the new chairman of Standard Chartered PLC.
Peace, who assumes his post with immediate effect, has been on the board of Standard Chartered since 2007 when he joined as deputy chairman.
He has held the post of acting chairman since January and during the intervening period has collaborated closely with the board, the executive management of the firm and Peter Sands, group chief executive.
Peace is enthused about his appointment, describing it as one of the best jobs in banking and spoke confidently about the bank’s robust status.
Sands has congratulated Peace on his appointment, expressing his own delight in seeing the post of chairman going to someone who brings experience and has been an active member of the board for some time.
Peace will spend at least three days per week as non-executive chairman of the bank, and is relinquishing his post as chairman of Experian plc, pending a replacement.
He will, however, retain the role of chairman of Burberry Group plc.
