Barclaycard has launched a new credit card designed to appeal to those with environmental concerns.

Barclaycard Breathe aims to help consumers combat the effects of climate change by offering discounts and low rates for a range of products and services which promote a greener lifestyle.

The card, which has a standard rate of 14.9%, offers a 5.9% interest rate on rail and national bus purchases; up to £50 off cavity wall and loft insulation from British Gas; £25 off energy bills with Ecotricity, 10% off any bicycle in Halfords and up to 25% off holidays at Center Parcs in the UK. (The 5.9% rate for travel services applies until the balance is cleared.)

Cardholders can also secure 20% off holidays at Eurocamp Green Key holiday parks; 10% off the rental any vehicle in the Hertz Green Collection and a 10% discount on purchases with Ecoelectricals.co.uk, which specialises in A rated energy efficient lighting and electrical appliances.

Barclaycard Breathe is the first credit card to donate specifically to environmental projects.
The card will be instrumental in funding projects around the world by giving away 50% of its profit.

The UK charity PURE, which works to combat climate change by investing in low energy projects, will be benefiting; a minimum donation of £1 million expected in the 12 months following the launch of the new card.
