Independent investment bank Greenhill & Co., Inc. has announced that it is to open a new office in Los Angeles dedicated to serving major clients in the region as well as those in the gaming, lodging and leisure sectors.

In addition to this Greenhill has hired James Stewart to serve as a managing director.

Stewart joins the firm from UBS Investment Bank in Los Angeles, where he served as managing director of Real Estate, Lodging and Leisure.

Earlier in his career he was an MD with Morgan Stanley and began his career with Salomon Brothers Inc.

Scott L. Bok, co-chief executive officer, has stated that although the current economic situation is one of turmoil it nevertheless has presented Greenhill with a number of opportunities.

The gaming, lodging and leisure sectors are a prime example, with Bok forecasting significant possibilities of M&A and restructuring in the near future.
